RENDERING....... ScreaminGecko wrote I'm sure most of you know this, but for those of you who don't read the instructions on your games before you play them, MAKE SURE YOU READ THE README before playing the game. Otherwise, y'all gonna start posting about how you don't see the cool explosions, and where are the dust clouds from the tanks, etc.

So, to pre-empt any questions such as these, make sure you read the readme and focus on turning on enhanced textures. This is the key to seeing the types of explosions you can expect from the final patch version (and you can see what we M3DII 12 card owners are seeing in the full (albeit OEM) game :-)

The following is from the readme file:

- Open the folder where Battlezone is installed.

- Look for a file called render.cfg, this is a settings file that controls the graphics in Battlezone.

- Double click on this file and select notepad or wordpad to edit it. You can also open it in any other text editor.

- Look for a line that reads "LargeAssets=1 // Use ENHANCED large textures"

- Delete the semicolon (;) at the beginning of the line. This activates this line of the configuration file. Close and save this file and you can now play battlezone with the enhanced textures. ENJOY! :-D

MORE STUTTERING.....Antony Jones wrote

Hi all,

Does anyone else have this rather strange problem with the sound in Battlezone?

Whenever the Recycler is not in view (i.e. most of the time) the speech sounds very crackly and stutters badly. However, when I'm looking directly at the recycler, the speech is fine!

I have a Pentium II with a 3Dfx card (Orchid Righteous 3D) and a Soundblaster 16ASP. If anyone knows a way of fixing this problem I would be very grateful, because it's extremely annoying!

Thanks.

Hi!

I was having problem with the speech too, but now everythings work fine. I was having a Diamond Monster 3D with the Diamond driver installed. Full of garbage in the speech... I downloaded the reference drivers form 3DFX and now, everythings work fine... So download the reference drivers from 3DFX, and it should work... Good luck!

MORE 3D CONFIG INFO....Herem wrote:

When I start up Battlezone using the 3D acceleration, I get the following message:

"CreateSurface for full screen flipping surface failed. Action not supported."

Has anyone received this error? What did you have to do to fix it? This Battlezone CD came with my Diamond Monster II board, in case that matters.

Philip Ross Gentile replied

I am getting the same error also.

I got Battlezone through the Diamond Monster 3D II as well. To solve the error, go into the video card directory inside the battlezone directory and click on the 3dfx folder. Inside the folder has a render.cfg file which you copy over to the main battlezone directory.

This will copy over the other render file. 3D support will now work. The only problem with this is that buffering is not used. I am not impressed with any of the 3D graphics in the game. I have 2D games which look alot better. Maybe the enhanced patch will hopefully solve this problem.Adam DeFranco offersp>

Oh No, not this again, someone put this on the FAQ. Take the original render.cfg file, the one that was loaded with the game. Open it up with notepad, or whatever to edit it.

there is a line, it should read something like:

;TripleBuffer (blah blah blah)

change it to read

triplebuffer (blah blah blah)

the result should be beautiful.

Thank you, have a nice day
