I am having problems completing mission 5. after i find the starport i
inspect all the structures and find no data base. Then i get a message
saying i've failed to follow orders and the mission ends in failure. what
am i doing wrong? Toby wrote
I found this problem: I was trying to stall time, to build up units. I found
that you also have to use I instead of the strategy help, which I have off
all the time as it obscures the sniper view. BTW, just out of interest how
have other people done the mission after this? I just got in a scout, a
flew top speed straight in to the Russian base, I.D.ed the lauchpad and
got the hell out of their. I jumped and strafed alot but most of the defence
are near the edge of the base. You also have to remember to build tanks
at the recycler constainly because when your halfway back the russian start
attacking you base, and some times follow you back.

I usually stay in the tank and drive over the relatively flat ground to
the east of the main map. It's tricky getting up the cliffs, but then you
just cruise right up. It's a bit sneaky, but so are those damn ruskies :-)

Hallo all,
This is a real pig, as one would expect but I need to know two things
1 How do you kill the fury lightning mines quickly and easly so the soviet
units can get through to you.
Robin Sayer wrote
I found it best to ignore the soviet units. The best thing is to build as
many bombers as quickly as you can. Having the soviets turn up only adds
weaker units which if they do survive are only worth recycling for bombers.
You
can either build right at the gysers nearest you and knock up a pile of
bombers and hangers and supply to keep them healthy or I found it quite
easy to build on the 3 gysers nearest you, just the other side of the defended
gate.
Knock out the two defensive laser cannons at the entrance and rush your
factory and recycler into the inside area by the 3 gysers. Build bombers
quick and a howitzer to start at the large gun turrets and power sources
of the enemy.
Keep defending against attack and moving your howitzer closer and soon the
level will be over.

I think you mean the mission where the furies are in the middle your on
the right. I Flew right around the bottom to the left most centre. I setup
there as all the heavy soviet units seemed to come from there.
Tactic I used: Build lots of walkers and 2 howitzers. shoot the mines with
stabbers. fly up to inner wall an take out the power(hence the towers).
Send the walkers up. Put a few repairs\ammo in their path to pick up as
walking.
I tend to use either a tank with duel Super stabbers or a bomber(Which are
rather good at taking out furies).

Can anyone give me something of a run-through for this mission? I've tried
to win the first mission where the Furies show up, and i can't. They're
simply too powerful, and no matter what kind of support I have, we get trashed
ASAP... I've reached the point where I'm almost ready to take the game out
of the CD bay for a while just to show it who's boss!

Here is how I eventually solved it.
1. If you view through the camera at the CCA base Nav Point the furies won't
destroy it, leaving it available.
2. When the command comes to consolidate forces I move to the southernmost
gyser cluster in the canyons. The furies for some reason won't bother you
there
3. After building up a respectable force I hop out and have the APC pick
me up. I pilot the APC.
4. I select all of the offensive units and send them to the CCA base Nav
point. The Furies come out and they have an awful battle.
5. Meanwhile I pilot the APC not to the base but outside of it on the eastern
wall. This puts me close enough to the rendezvous point for the scenario
to begin the evacuation. As soon as the evacuation is completed I hot foot
it out of there.
Also
I'd love to hear if anyone else accomplished this:
I spent about 8 hours over 2-3 days. I actually destroyed the Soviet base:
(used howitzers), and moved my recycler and MUF into the Soviet base. Build
lots of Solar-PSU's & gun towers. You'll also need an armory to repair the
gun towers. Fury attacks come in waves, so I'd stick around for a fury attack,
repair the gun towers, then pilot the APC to a pickup site. Come back, and
by this time it'd be just about time for another attack. Ride it out, repair
gun towers, go to next pickup. The nice part about doing it this way is,
when it's time to pick up the Soviet Scientists, the game ends immediately,
because they're already within 50 meters of the recycler.
Sure wish I could snipe a fury, tho'. :-)

This is probably a really silly way to do the mission, but...
I built a supply and a hangar about 500m east of the factories. I put a
turret there with a flash cannon, and then got myself a rocket tank with
a comet, and just bombarded the site from a distance. I found that the Furies
couldn't be bothered coming up to see me there...

1 Supply & Turret If you have space to do this, put supply and 2 to 3 turrets
around it, as CLOSE as they get, anyway this how you have badgers (or paks)
with unlimited ammunition, and with flash cannon the effect is FABULOUS,
just think what 3 turrets with unlimited ammo and 2 flash cannons each can
do attacking force? Its unbeatable, when you have 6 flash cannons on your
tail, theres no escaping, and this how you can easily defeat large attack
force with 5 turrets or so... There's also possibility to make supply &
hangar & turret combos, but you can only get 1 or 2 turrets to get free
ammo and hull. But when they do, it rocks.
2 Sp stabbers and scouts Its easy to wipe out 3 or 4 scavengers with 3 scouts
equipped with 2xSP stabbers. They do not have much ammo, but they do have
exellent power. And scouts are fast so you can run into your base to refill..and
again, to drain your enemys scavengers... this tactic is based on computer
pilots good aim (anyway scavengers are not that hard targets tho..), 6xsp
stabbers on enemy scavengers ass finishes it in about 5 seconds. And then
next, and next... These scouts with 2x sp stabbers also make good defence
for your harvesters, they can wipe any single target easily out (and then
they are out of ammo;), if theres someone trying to take harvesters out
without backup...
