The following narrative has been describes the construction of the 1.22.5 D&RG T-19 loco from a Bachmann 4-6-0 Anniversery loco or "Annie" as it's widley known. It is named George F. Dean after my late father in law

The conversion is one of my latest projects. Again I hope the following article will be of some use to any one who decides upon a similar venture.

Rod Hayward Dec 2006.

I made my own T-19 from the Bachmann Annie as its more representative of the part of the world our railraod is located. That said I am going for the look and due to some of the things I'm not going to change, like the wheel spacing's on axles 1& 2.

Here are some general shots of the chassis.

New slides, crosshead etc. The valve chest link is drven by an eccentric from the front wheel in the same manner as the C-21 bash earlier. I used the reverser lift arm from the Annies outside gear for the crank. The pilot deck has been shortened and the pilot truck is 8mm shorter. It was just too long as was.

To make the new rear end to the cylnders you can pull out the Annie's rear end assembly and remove the gland cover. You can see it here repositioned on the new back end. Also a pair new motion brackets from 1mm brass, fixed to the chassis as the original mounts were. Some of the bolt heads are a tad over scale, but considering all the other compromises on the model there will be, it's small beer for a robust assembly.

I Started on the body next. Here are shots of the Annies smokebox door, befor and after. The bulbous assembly does nt sit well on the bash and there is no room for the characteristic horizontal handrail.

The small door also accentuates the boiler taper of the Annie, which is greater than the T-19. It's altogether too chunky. Here is a picture of the finished assembley installed on the front end. Also the makers plates, a piece of 20thou brass thats had a dry pint transfer applied and then varnished. Not quite as good an an etch, but it will do, you know the 10ft rule etc.
Now because the weather was rubbish everytime I went to take some pictures this bash does nt have a lot of accompyning blow by blow shots and narrative. So I have put together a list of all the things I changed. You can access the list by clicking on the image to the right.
Lastly here is a few detailed shots for you
  Thats about it......
